Behind the wheels, the chassis kicks up small stones, grit, and spray directly against the side skirts and the lower paintwork. On a Tesla with its large wheel arches, this area is particularly exposed. Mud flaps catch the dirt before it hits the paint. This guide explains whether they are worth it and which set fits your model.

Are mud flaps worth it for a Tesla?
- Paint protection in the most expensive area. Stone chips on side skirts and rear wheel arches are expensive to repair. A set costs a fraction of a paint touch-up.
- Cleaner side panels. Fewer dirt streaks on the vehicle, especially in wet conditions and on country roads.
- Precision fit instead of universal. Model-specific mud flaps are mounted at the designated points using the included screws. The exact installation instructions can be found on the respective product page.
- Complete with mounting hardware. The sets contain the necessary screws; installation can be done without a workshop.
Installation in brief
Clean the edge of the wheel arch, hold the mud flap in place, and secure it using the included screws at the existing points. For removing trim clips, the appropriate toolbox with clips and tools (from €24.99) is helpful.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Do I have to drill for installation?
- Installation is done using the included screws at the designated mounting points. The Highland set is designed for installation without drilling; for the Model 3/Model Y set, the exact installation instructions are on the product page.
- Does the Model 3 set also fit the Highland?
- No. For the Model 3 Highland, there is a separate, precision-fit 4-piece set. The Highland’s wheel arches differ from the predecessor.
- Do mud flaps have a noticeable impact on consumption?
- Mud flaps are primarily for paint protection. We do not make any general statements regarding aerodynamics or consumption; reliable values would only be available through a test under defined conditions.
- Are the mud flaps suitable for winter?
- They keep road salt, slush, and spray away from the paint, which is a particular advantage in winter. The material specifications can be found on the respective product page.
